Posted on 11 Dec, 2019 by Dr. Birgit Boetius

On 7 November 2019, the President of the European Commission Dr. Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen met with their African Union counterpart, Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During the press conference, President von der Leyen presented three EU priorities: climate change, an EU for the Digital Age, and a political commission. Von der Leyen underlined that the digital agenda is one of her commission's top priorities and as such will grow in importance in the joint EU - AU work. GFA currently implements the EU funded Technical Assistance Project which supports the AU Commission in implementing the Policy and Regulation Initiative for Digital Africa – a flagship program of the Panafrican program between AU and EU.
