IT-based M&E tool adapted to the needs of the global project AgriChains
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ implemented the global program "Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains (GP AgriChains)". The projects partner countries were Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia and India. The project was part of the BMZ Special Initiative "One World Without Hunger" (SEWOH). It was centrally coordinated by the Steering Unit (SU) in Bonn. The SUs tasks included monitoring the achievement of objectives on the basis of defined performance indicators and annual reporting to the client (BMZ) and GIZ. The monitoring and evaluation activities of the countries were coordinated by the SU but carried out at country level. The impacts achieved were then aggregated and reported centrally. The monitoring system was complex. Therefore, GP AgriChains was looking for a customized and user-friendly management information system that would support the M&E staff at country level and the SU to facilitate monitoring, evaluation and reporting. The overall objective of the consultancy was to design, develop and implement a comprehensive and user-friendly web-based MIS that would support the project and its implementing partners in effective data collection, verification and analysis. The digital M&E tool streamlined work processes at the country level as well as in the Steering Unit.
