Food security and adaptation to climate change in La Mosquitia
The protection and sustainable management of natural resources improve the living conditions of the rural population and reduce climate risks. The measure of technical cooperation supported the Ministry of Agriculture, indigenous communities and other stakeholders to improve framework conditions and implement concrete measures for food security in the context of climate change. The focus of the project was on two fields of action:
1. Increase and diversify food production, and
2. Improve skills and coordination of stakeholders with relevance to food security.
The project supported stakeholders at various levels in developing measures and methods for the adaptation of agricultural cultivation methods to the negative effects of climate change, as well as their practical application. The project thus contributed to the improvement of the living conditions of the rural population and to the reduction of climate risks in eastern Honduras and, in particular, to food security in indigenous communities of Mosquitia.
