Territorial water governance program in the Gulf of Fonseca
The objective of the first project phase from 2017 to 2021 is to contribute to the gradual development of a territorial water governance system through three watershed councils in the Gulf of Fonseca region, ensuring water management in an integral, sustainable and equitable manner. The program follows a logical approach as regards the following two central results and their respective products:
1. The watershed councils of Choluteca, Sampile and Nacaome in collaboration with the Goascorán watershed make inclusive and cooperative decisions to consolidate themselves as water governance instances according to the legal framework and national policies.
2. Within the framework of the bodies of the Choluteca, Sampile and Nacaome watersheds, the local governments in the Gulf of Fonseca region lead the process of integrated water management, strategic investments and the application of best practices of conservation, use and sustainability, thus establishing water security for the vulnerable population.
