Green hydrogen for a sustainable economic development and a decarbonized economy

Tunisia
GIZ, 2022 - 2024
Contract value: 552,600 EUR

This project is the first GIZ engagement on the topic of green hydrogen and PtX in Tunisia, building on decades of GIZ support of the Tunisian energy transition with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The overall objective is to improve the framework conditions for the development of a renewable energy-based value chain for green hydrogen and its derivatives in Tunisia. GFA´s services:

  • Analyse and benchmark existing green hydrogen and PtX strategies, roadmaps and action plans in the MENA region and the EU and Tunisia, including overview of possible solutions for green H2 and PtX products (ammonia, methanol).
  • Review and refine the existing cost analysis of the different green hydrogen and PtX technologies in Tunisia.
  • Describe the key technological elements and environmental and safety impacts of the green hydrogen and PtX supply chains in Tunisia.
  • Support the development of a comprehensive H2 action plan.
  • Develop a digital green hydrogen and PtX open source pipeline tool to visualise the results of the strategy.
  • Support H2 / PtX consultation processes at sectoral level across Tunisia.
  • Enable international benchmarking of priority sectors.
  • Liaise with German and international stakeholders to explore public-private partnerships and refine resource mobilisation strategies.
  • Define and create open access digital infrastructure maps, visualising key value chain potentials and national resources for priority sectors.
  • Summarise technical and economic recommendations for strategic planning documents for each priority sector and identify overlaps, gaps and potential conflicts.
