The overall objective of the project is to enhance Zimbabwes integration into the regional and international trading system. The project has to main focuses: The first one is to contribute to the specific objectives and results of the Zimbabwe Economic Partnership Support Project (ZEPA), the second is to coordinate, monitor and strengthen the implementation of the Zimbabwe Economic Partnership Support Project. The projects has three specific objectives:

  1. Reform and streamline policy, regulatory and institutional frameworks to incentivise production and trade in selected value chains,
  2. reduced trading costs and expedited movement, release and clearance of goods,
  3. improved competitiveness and export capacity of small and medium sized enterprises in selected value chains.

For the objective 1 and 2, GFA provides expert advice to support the reforming and streamlining of policies, regulatory and institutional frameworks to incentivise production and trade in selected value chains as well as reducing trading costs and expediting movement, clearance and release of goods through different Trade Facilitation measures. GFA also contributes to build capacity within the Ministry of Industry and Commerce as well as other relevant government agencies such as the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and other border control agencies through deployment of short term experts where necessary to achieve these outcomes. The objective 3 is implemented through a grant contract to support improved competitiveness and export capacity of small and medium sized enterprise. Additionally, activities on access to finance for SMEs, strengthening of business skills, support BSOs, and conduct value chain analyses will flank the grants.
