Contract supporting regional industrial value addition under the GIZ Support to East African Market Driven and People Centred Integration (SEAMPEC) Program
Under the GIZ SEAMPEC program, GFA supported the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat and the EAC Partner States in achieving regional industrial value addition in the pharmaceutical and agro-processing sectors. Activities under this contract followed on from a previous contract from 2017 to 2019 and supported the development and implementation of new and existing EAC action plans and strategies. The main objective of the activities was to create enabling framework conditions and opportunities for agro-processing in the fruits & vegetables and leather value chains, as well as for the production of higher quality and safer medicines in the region. In particular, GFA impllemented four integrated work packages together with the GIZ SEAMPEC program:
1. Strengthening the capacity of the EAC to support implementation of regional strategies and action plans with a focus on export development
2. Developing and implementing regionally harmonized product standards
3. Developing and implementing regionally harmonized customs procedures
4. Supporting the private sector in regional value addition and trade
