Further support to the development of trade in Kosovo
The overall objective of the project was to further support Kosovos integration into the world economy and strengthen the role of the State on economic governance through effective regulatory functions in line with the obligations of the EU-Kosovo Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). The purpose was to support the Government of Kosovo to continue developing its institutional capacity to create the basis for a sustainable environment for private sector development in line with the EU acquis and the SAA requirements. The project increased the capacity of the Government of Kosovo to develop, negotiate and implement trade policy, including protection and enforcement of intellectual property, in line with international trade requirements and EU practices, and to improve its capacity to support Kosovo traders. The project had four main components:
- Trade agreements - including issues under the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA)
- Trade policy - including legislative and policy development, strengthening of institutional and administrative capacities, and strengthening of inter-institutionally coordinated system
- Impact assessment - including for negotiations before EFTA and the World Trade Organization (WTO)
- Industrial property rights
