Improving skills for employment in the Kurdistan region of Iraq
To strengthen inclusive employment opportunities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, GFA Consulting Group and bbw gGmbH are implementing a GIZ-commissioned project aimed at enhancing the employability of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and vulnerable host communities. The project focuses on labour market-oriented vocational training by strengthening public training institutions such as the Directorate of Training of Trainers Academy Kurdistan Region (DoToT) and several Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). Activities include the capacity development of training staff and administrators, the delivery of short-term modular courses, the facilitation of internships, and the piloting of a dual vocational training scheme in cooperation with local businesses.
Special attention is given to the inclusion of women and persons with disabilities, the promotion of green skills, and conflict-sensitive planning. The project applies the proven BINA methodology, which combines profiling, competency-based training, and direct engagement with the private sector to ensure sustainable employment pathways.
