Biodiversity conservation and sustainable forest management
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, GIZ is implementing the Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management Program in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation. From 2017 to 2020, the DFS-GFA consortium supported GIZ in the implementation of measures for the participatory management of natural forests and reforestation in peripheral zones of national parks. While DFS carried out agroforestry activities in the province of South Kivu, GFA was responsible for the sustainable natural forest management in the province of Maniema. GFA supported the establishment of one community concession and supported the information, awareness raising and application process for two other community concessions. Furthermore, GFA accompanied the participatory preparation of the simplified management plan for the community concession and the implementation of two logging operations by the local cooperative.
