GIZ, 2019 - 2024
Contract value: 1,852,328 EUR

The objective of the technical cooperation module was to enable key stakeholders in Laos to protect the countrys forests and biodiversity more effectively. To this end, the project helped to build a better understanding of environmental relationships. It also strengthened the capacity of state and non-state actors to establish a timber monitoring system, advance the UNESCO nomination process, and meet the criteria for participatory protected area management.  Key outputs were to support the Lao-EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) process; to scale up environmental education and awareness activities; and to improve the co-management system for Hin Nam No NPA.

GFA was responsible for Output 2 of the module: In terms of environmental education and awareness, the partnership between the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP) and NGOs has disseminated approaches, tools and knowledge to relevant environmental agencies and implementing partners in the provinces.
