Contract value: 1,852,328 EUR

The objective of the Technical Cooperation module is to enable key stakeholders in Laos to protect the country’s forests and biodiversity more effectively. To this end, the project will help to build a greater understanding of environmental relationships. It will also strengthen the capacity of state and non-sate actors to set up a timber monitoring system, drive forward the UNESCO nomination process and meet the criteria for participatory protected area management.  Key outputs are to support for the Lao-EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) process; upscaling of environmental education and of measures to promote environmental awareness, and to improve the co-management system for Hin Nam No NPA.

GFA is responsible for output 2 of the module: In relation to environmental education and awareness-raising, the partnership between Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP) and NGOs has rolled out approaches, instruments and knowledge to the relevant environment agencies and implementation partners in the provinces.
