Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF)
The Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF) Mongolia consisted of up to USD 80 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) provided to PFIs (banks, microfinance institutions and leasing companies) in Mongolia. The PFIs on-lent the proceeds for green investments in privately owned homes or buildings, as well as privately and commercially owned buildings and businesses. Eligible sub-borrowers included individuals, housing associations, corporations, energy service providers, and vendors and manufacturers of relevant technologies.
The objective of this assignment was to transfer strategic know-how and raise awareness of modern energy performance standards in order to contribute to the creation of a demand-driven, self-sustaining market for investments in high-performance energy efficiency/renewable energy (EE/RE) technologies and services. More specifically, the objective of this assignment was to support and enable PFIs and potential sub-borrowers to implement the GEFF Mongolia, resulting in a portfolio of eligible sub-projects. At the same time, the technical support and capacity building activities for PFIs and sub-borrowers promoted equal access to the GEFF Mongolia financial products for women and men.
