HIV/AIDS prevention, HIV counseling and testing
GFA supported the National Department of Health in implementing HIV counseling and testing (HCT) in the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga regions. The overall objective of the program was to improve the health status of vulnerable populations and reduce HIV transmission through the provision of HCT services. The project was implemented in close collaboration with Africa Capability, a South African health development and social sector consultancy. HCT services are specifically targeted at populations in hot spots such as informal settlements and rural areas with high HIV prevalence. Other key populations include men who have sex with men, transgender people, sex workers, injecting drug users and migrants.
