Support to the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) with the Establishment of a Regional Epidemiological Surveillance System
With the goal of protecting the population of the ECOWAS region against epidemic diseases, the project contributed to the development and strengthening of a functioning epidemiological surveillance system in the ECOWAS region. The general objective of the assignment was to support WAHO and RCDC with the detailed planning and implementation of the project to establish an effective early warning and response system in the ECOWAS region in four focus countries: Burkina Faso (host country of WAHO), Ivory Coast, Niger and Nigeria (host country of RCDC). The project focused on strengthening of capacities and infrastructures of the reference laboratory network in the four countries. The two specific objectives were to strengthening 10 reference laboratories in the four countries and the national and regional reference laboratory network, linked to RCDC.
