Sustainable Regional Economic Growth and Investment (SREGIP)
The Sustainable Regional Economic Growth and Investment Program - SREGI - aims at improving the value added and environmental sustainability for 100 SMEs and 5,000 small farmers in selected areas in West Kalimantan and West Nusa Tenggara. Four fields of activities make for a systemic approach in promoting value chains. Services provided by GFA experts focus on strengthening private and public service providers in sustainable tourism and agriculture. Finance needs analysis, match-making between green financing providers and SMEs, or innovative technology demonstration projects are cases in point.
Until May 2017, the total recorded direct beneficiaries of SREGIP reached 4,841 farmers (1,720 pepper farmers and 3,121 rubber farmers) from 75 pepper farmer groups and 128 rubber farmer groups. In addition, 304 tourism SMEs such as hotel/homestays, tour and travel and tourism destination operators were supported by SREGIP, as well as businesses that are indirectly involved within the tourism sector such as farmers, snack producers, handicraft producers, spa and beauty services.
SREGIP has provided an intensive on-farm training and coaching to farmers through field with the aim of improving quality and quantity of rubber/pepper production. SREGIP further aimed at strengthening farmer groups, cooperatives and UPPB connect them to the market and enabled them to organise collective marketing (joint selling). In addition to that, SREGIP has facilitated business dialogue and partnerships between farmer groups, cooperatives, downstream companies, government and civil society organisations that eventually would stimulate an improved business, better income for the farmers and include the farmers into the rubber and pepper supply value chains.
