Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management Programme (PBF - Phases V-VIII)
The Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management Programme (PBF V–VIII) supports the DRC in preserving its unique biodiversity while promoting sustainable and inclusive development. The project focuses on strengthening the ICCN, the national conservation agency based in Kinshasa, with technical assistance from GFA Consulting Group (also based in Kinshasa), and on supporting six protected areas under public-private co-management.
The main objectives of the project are to strengthen the strategic leadership and institutional capacity of ICCN, improve the governance and management of protected areas, apply environmental and social safeguards (ESS) and human rights standards, and support the sustainable livelihoods of local communities.
The supported protected areas are: Kahuzi-Biega National Park (PNKB) – South Kivu – with WCS; Lomami National Park (PNL) – Tshopo / Maniema – with ZGF, Salonga National Park (PNS) – Tshuapa / Maï-Ndombe – with WWF, Okapi Wildlife Reserve (RFO) – Ituri – with WCS, and Kundelungu National Park (PNKL) – Haut-Katanga – with African Parks Network.
