Madagascar National Parks (MNP) Investment Fund, phase II

Madagascar
KfW, 2014 - 2018
Contract value: 2,226,818 EUR

Since the beginning of the first phase of the investment fund in 2009, the consortium GFA/Denkmodell assisted Madagascar National Parks (MNP), the national association in charge of the management of 43 protected areas, and initiated, accompanied and strengthened a change process, which was widely recognized as a success. The overall objective of the project was the conservation and valorization of Madagascar’s sensitive ecosystems within and around protected areas, in direct collaboration with the local population.

In the second phase, which started in 2014, GFA experts further supported MNP to improve their internal organization and management. A stronger focus was put on external cooperation, communication and marketing. The core function of MNP, their park management and conservation tasks, were also supported. This particularly entailed investments into equipment and infrastructure as well as the introduction of an effective eco-monitoring system.
