Program to support industrial diversification and the improvement of the business climate (PADICA)
The Algerian industrial sector development is key to economic diversification, job creation, technologi-cal development and, finally, economic independence from hydrocarbons. To meet the challenges of boosting national production, the Algerian Government adopted a new industrial policy in 2013, in order to increase the weight of industry in the national economy, the multiplication of industrial added value and industrial employment. The overall objective of PADICA was to support efforts to diversify industry and improve the business climate in order to contribute to Algerias sustainable economic development. The service contract structured around three components corresponding to three objectives:
- Strengthening the structures of the Ministry of Industry and Mines (MIM) and institutions involved in the development, management and monitoring of economic diversification policies and programmes to support industrial sectors.
- Support for the deployment of the MIMs industrial recovery and diversification strategy and the implementation of pilot actions in selected sectors.
- Support for the preparation, contracting and monitoring of contracts under indirect management.
The program thereby strengthened economic development through institutional support to implement economic diversification policies and strategies; industry support to strengthen priority sectors; and the development support for quality infrastructure to enhance competitiveness of Algerian products.
