The project supported the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) with the objective of increasing the proportion of certified forests in the Congo Basin in order to improve conditions for biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of forests. GFA provided technical advice in three areas of intervention: Establishment of a technical, formal & institutional framework favouring forest certification, improvement of the quality of industrial forest exploitation and strengthening of the communication on sustainable commercial forest exploitation (i.e. with the civil society sector).
