Strengthening the African Human Rights System

Key and non-key experts provide technical assistance to support the four AU partner institutions: The African Court on Human and Peoples Rights (AfCHPR), the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR), the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERCW) and the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) in order to contribute to a transparent, democratic and accountable environment with respect to human rights and rule of law in Africa.

The specific objective of this project was to enhance the operational capabilities of the beneficiary institutions in the short term and provide additional direct human capital support for building the institutions of the African Human Rights System within the framework of the African Governance Architecture (AGA). The purpose of this contract is to provide specific technical assistance as part of the action for Strengthening the African Human Rights System:

  • To support the operational capability of the four AU organs (which are beneficiaries of EU grants under the Panafrican Action (PANAF)) with experts embedded in these organisations (for planning, monitoring, communication and human rights expertise)
  • To ensure a longer-term institution-building framework by improving the links between these AU organs, other relevant stakeholders (such as CSOs) and the Contracting Authority
