ARAKET: For better life in new settlements - Phase I
The Araket Project is part of the Swiss Cooperation Programme Central Asia 2022–2025. It aims to improve the livelihoods of residents in new settlements and reduce their vulnerabilities, thereby contributing to peace, social cohesion and resilient institutions. By enabling residents to claim their rights and access public services, the project improves the economic situation of women in the settlements and supports sustainable development and stability in the region.
During Phase I, the project will strengthen local governance by facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues, enhancing the capacities of administrations in Bishkek, Osh, Sokoluk and Alamedin, and promoting public fund mobilisation for service improvements. The project also raises awareness and supports advocacy efforts to enable residents to access public services, including cultural, sporting, and leisure activities. To improve economic opportunities for women, the project provides small-scale business grants, coaching, vocational training, financial literacy programmes and business mentorship to foster entrepreneurial skills and link women to opportunities in the private sector. Through these efforts, the Araket Project fosters inclusion, economic empowerment and stronger community ties in new settlements.
