As part of the GIZ ‘Support to East African Community Market-Driven and People-Centered Integration (SEAMPEC) II’ project, GFA supports the EAC Secretariat and the EAC Partner States in implementing regional agreements and policy measures to increase regional and continental trade in goods. GFA’s activities focus on the pharmaceutical and the agro-processing industries (fruits & vegetables, leather and leather products) as two of six regional priority industries identified in the EAC industrialization strategy. Building on the activities implemented under the predecessor project SEAMPEC I, GFA is working on strengthening framework conditions, institutional structures, exchange and capacities of public and private sector stakeholders for the implementation of key policy measures on the regional and national level. Furthermore, activities will support research and innovation in the pharmaceutical, fruits & vegetables and leather value chains, focusing on environmental and social sustainability. As a result, companies operating in these value chains will benefit from an improved competitiveness and market access.
