Renewable Energy Skills Development (RESD)

Indonesia
SECO, 2020 - 2028
Contract value: 10,941,630 CHF

To support Indonesia’s target of 23% renewable energy (RE) in its energy mix by 2025, the RESD project addresses a key bottleneck: the shortage of qualified professionals in the RE sector. The project, implemented with support from GFA Consulting Group and partners, focuses on developing formal and non-formal education pathways that align with labour market demands.

Under Component 1, GFA supports the establishment of RE specialisation programmes at D4 level in selected polytechnics. This includes designing and accrediting curricula, developing instructional materials, procuring laboratory equipment, and training instructors in its use. GFA also supports the development of internship schemes with the private sector and the certification of teaching staff, ensuring that graduates are job-ready and meet national qualification standards.

In Component 2, GFA enables public and private training providers to offer modular non-formal training in solar PV and hydropower. This involves developing short-course curricula, providing teaching materials, equipping training labs, conducting trainer certification, and aligning assessment procedures with national standards (IQF levels 3–4).

Component 3 focuses on knowledge exchange and awareness. GFA contributes to the development of digital platforms to share information on RE technologies, training offers, and industry actors. It also supports RE sector conferences, awareness campaigns, and twinning partnerships between Swiss and Indonesian institutions.

Through these services, GFA plays a central role in building institutional capacity, improving training quality, and linking education with industry – all essential for accelerating Indonesia’s energy transition.
