The objective of the project Sustainable Energy in the Provinces of Midelt and Tata (EDMITA), also known as DKTI 3, was to strenghten the capacities of the provinces Midelt and Tata to use the potential of renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE/EE) technologies for sustainable development. The provinces had been chosen to host power plants of the Moroccan solar plan. Methodologically, EDMITA followed a participatory strategy development approach involving stakeholders at both communal and provincial levels. Furthermore, awareness raising campaigns as well as vocational training had been undertaken with a focus on quality management. Pilot projects demonstrated the efficiency of the RE/EE technologies and the positive employment and pro-poor effects, in particular on women. The pilot measures were partly undertaken in cooperation with national agencies and ministries in order to facilitate prospective expansions. According to regional needs and potentials, project implementation will comprise all suitable RE/EE technologies. The approach was complemented by an institutionalised evaluation mechanism which allows continuous learning and a transfer of local experiences across other provinces and at national level.
